Behind the Blog Name

How I started:
I’m new to the blogging world, and new to parenthood. Kinda. Well, I’ve been a mom to our 4-legged baby for 6 years, but am new to parenthood of the human type. I decided to start blogging when I would be up countless times in the middle of the night, feeding our son, and TV seems to suck at that time. I realized that I wanted to capture all the moments that make you ask, "why the fuss?", and blogging seemed to be the best way to do it.
Who I am:
I was born and raised in Singapore, to a Singaporean mom and Canadian dad. So I’m half Singaporean, half Canadian. I moved to Canada when I was 16 and completed high school and attained my degree in Criminology in BC. I am currently on maternity leave from my main job as a Safe School Liaison with the school district. My job is kind of in between youth work and security – I am basically responsible for developing relationships with the students to gain their trust, and keep drugs, weapons, fights, bullying out of the schools. Outside of my main job, I am also an ice hockey referee. I am the CEO of REFcore, a company partnered with the NHL Officials Association, which makes and sells apparel and accessories to hockey referees. I served as the Referee-in-Chief for a minor hockey association for 7 years, and went on to be the Officiating Co-ordinator for BC Hockey for the Lower Mainland West. When I became pregnant, I detoured slightly from those responsibilities to focus more on my family.
I'm now a stay at home mom, until I figure out what I'm going to be doing. While I try to figure that out, I am teaching baby sign language at Baby Charades as part of the Baby Signs® Program. Its the first thing after having kids that I've actually looked forward to doing as a job, that didn't involve dreading dragging my a** into work everyday.
I still visit my friends and family in Singapore every couple of years, and my husband and I love vacationing there. We were also fortunate to be able to travel around to Maldives, as well as to various states in the USA to follow our passion for hockey. We both love hockey and love going to different arena’s in North America to get the sense and culture of the game in different cities. My husband goes on a hockey trip every year, and visits arenas around the NHL. For any hockey loving dads out there, you can follow him on Instagram as well.
Our Family:
Our family now consistes of myself, and my husband Nate, our two sons, Linden and Maverick, and our pampered pooch, Snowy, AND another baby boy on the way, due in the first quarter of 2020! Nate and I have been married for over 5 years now, and we are embracing our journey and adventures into parenthood.
For now, I’m enjoying this new role I have in life (mom-ing), and I’m enjoying being able to blog about it and share my experiences with other moms. I also wanted to share discount codes to other mom's because being a parent is apparently ridiculously expensive, and everything helps, so if you check out the "discount code" page, hopefully you can get some deals from my blog.
And thats pretty much it about me. I’m pretty simple. Loving life. Living the dream. Can’t complain, can’t ask for anything better. Hope you enjoy my writing and reading my posts! Thanks for reading!
About me
ABOUT the Blog
WTF Parent Blog - the name originally started out as What the F*** Parent because of all the overwhelming stuff that happens to you as a new parent, and of all the times I found myself saying "WTF?" while parenting. Then as my kids got older, the WTF turned to Why the Fuss, because any parent of a toddler knows thats all they do - fuss. All.The.Time. And thats what the WTF in WTF Parent currently stands for. Since I can't make a decision to save my life, I am also running under the sub-domain name of Babies N' Brews, because, let's face it, how the heck can you be expected to parent without coffee, or a nice cold pint of beer on the weekend (or every night after the kids go to sleep)?
To be honest, the blog was created out of boredom, and from my desire to want to help other moms. When my first son was born, I realized that there is so much baby stuff out there that we need/want to buy to help make our lives as parents easier, and to give our kids the best we can. What started out as a few small reviews of baby products, turned into a little more, leading to me being able to offer some discount codes, and also to be able to help other moms make decisions on which baby products to buy. My blog is based solely on my experience as a parent, and I am not paid to do my reviews.
